I have so many Irish mob movies to choose from, but to be honest I’m not sure I’ve seen most of them! I am glad I have this list because it contains films that really are special in their own right.

The Secret Six, also known as The Six (1948), is a classic in the history of the genre that I think is worth your time.
The Irish mob movies are a bit like the German mafia films, except in the case of the Irish the mob is an organization that has been around for over 100 years and have a lot of skeletons in their closet. Because of this, the mob movies tend to be quite dark and gritty. The Secret Six is no exception. It’s a crime family story about a group of men who are in the middle of one of those classic mob movies.
The Six is a group of men who are the “bad guys” of the family and are trying to take down the other four families that control the city, but with the help of the FBI they are able to do so with the aid of a police officer.
The Secret Six is the first in a series of movies I am looking forward to seeing, so it’s gonna be interesting to see where this goes.
Its no secret that Irish movies always do well in the States, but the fact that they are a little bit different than you might expect is enough to make it interesting. Because the story is about a group of men who are in the middle of one of those classic mob movies, its only ever depicted as a gang, and they are always men and it never even hints at the fact that there might be females involved. It just shows how much of a gritty look they have.
I can’t say that I’m a fan of the film, but it also shows the potential for a great Irish movie. I think that’s probably best kept in the hands of the right filmmakers. I also can’t say I ever watched it.
