I have to say that I think the most important comedy movie of all time was “The Good Wife.” This is the hilarious, self-deprecating film that I have only seen before, but you can get the hang of it by watching it on DVD.
The Good Wife is the quintessential “I’m not a good person, everyone thinks I’m a bad person, and I’m a good person” movie. It is a comedy that is as self-deprecating as it is self-aware. It is a film that you wish you could make.
I think it is the most self-aware, self-sabotaging comedy ever made. Whether that is really due to its self-deprecating tone or not, I don’t know. I do remember being pretty irritated by the constant attempts by Jerry Seinfeld and Amy Schumer to make it a comedy. It is funny, but it is also frustrating.
At the time of its release, this was the only comedy I was familiar with that didn’t start with the phrase, “I’m a big bad person.” I remember thinking “Man, just get it over with and then we can get back to talking about something else.” Of course, it just kept coming and coming. “The Big Bang Theory” was just a little more self-aware than this. Now, I remember just being annoyed that the entire thing was so self-aware.
The fact is that the Big Bang Theory is the best comedy series ever made. Every show has its flaws, but there is no denying that it is a brilliant show. But it is only a comedy. You cannot tell it is serious by its title. And it is not just self-aware because it is funny. It is self-aware because it is a comedy.
You should check out the series for yourself. I can’t even imagine what they would have done with the show if they had not started it with the word, “self-aware.” It is so self-aware that it comes off as self-aware.
Just listen to it. The entire series is self-aware and funny, but only if you keep the word “self-aware”.
The show is quite literally self-aware, as the entire series is completely aware of itself. The show knows which parts of its character are being self-aware and which parts are being played by its camera-friendly actor, Mark Wahlberg. This is because the show is aware of itself. It is self aware because it is a comedy. But it is so aware that it can be serious.
