I think that people who watch a lot of horror movies have a tendency to see the “bad guys” as the bad guys. After all, if the bad guy is the bad guy, then he is the bad guy. So I think it’s a bit misguided of horror movie fans to make the “good guy” the guy who dies. I think that it’s much better to have a good guy who dies and the bad guy who survives.
