There have been several times where actors were made to look much older or younger than they already are.

When a film happens over a period of many years or it happens around multiple timelines. Filmmakers are left to decide whether they should cast a different actor or whether they should use makeup or CGI to make them look older or younger.

CGI or Computer-Generated Imagery is the creation of visual content using imaging software.

Complex visuals are made use of by combining computer-generated images into the film as layers. This is called compositing.

This technique is used with actors on a green screen, to place them in a different background than they already are in.

Here we have a list of few movies where makeup and visual effects have made actors look way older or way younger than they already were.

The list of 10 movies are:

1)Chris Evans as Steve Rogers in Avengers Endgame

It is quite difficult to believe that it is actually Chris Evans beneath all those layers.

All those effects and makeup sure did the job that it was supposed to do and made Chris Evans look as old as he was supposed to look.

2) Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

There are literally no words to describe the transformation of Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter. We are just mindblown.

3)Will Smith as Junior in Gemini Man

In this movie, Will Smith’s face is actually computer-generated completely, making use of the latest technology.

Even though the face is computer-generated, the acting is completely Will Smith and that makes the film ever so memorable.

4) Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables

Hugh Jackman looks completely different in this movie than his usual self.

In order to look the part, he had to go through a lot of change that included major weight loss as he had to play Jean Valjean at different time periods.

5) Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson as older versions of Harry, Ron, and Hermione in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2

The makeup team had a big task ahead of them; making the 20-year-old actors look almost 40 years old.

Even though it was quite difficult, the team managed to do it and had to reshoot the scene after making them look too old.

6) Brad Pitt as Benjamin Button in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

This is an iconic movie where we see the reverse aging of Benjamin Button.

The actor was made to look quite older and quite younger than his normal self by making use of de-aging and CGI.

7) Robert Downey Jr. as a college-age Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War

The filmmakers made use of VFX techniques to de-age him and it sure worked like a charm as we see a handsome and young Tony Stark in the movie.

8) Joe Pesci as Russell Bufalino in The Irishman

The makeup department of the movie revealed that mostly makeup was used for many of the age differences in the movie as they did not what to completely depend on CGI.

9)Robert De Niro as Frank Sheeran in The Irishman

The actors in this movie who needed to look younger was de-aged by making use of their past performances as references.

10) Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady

In order to play the part of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, Meryl Streep had to mostly wear prosthetics as she had to play the older versions of Thatcher in the movie.

In the past, it was only possible to make an actor look a little older or a little younger with the help of makeup.

But recent technology has made it possible to drastically make an actor look younger or older or even give them an entirely new face. So, It is quite impressive.
