The Witcher is an American fantasy television series that was created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich for Netflix. It is based on the book series of the same name that is written by Andrzej Sapkowski, a Polish writer.
The series follows the story of a solitary monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia who struggles in finding himself a place in the world where people often prove to be dangerous than beasts and monsters.
But destiny has other plans for him when it brings him together with a young princess and a powerful sorceress.
The cast includes the handsome hunk Henry Cavill, the charming Anya Chalotra, the gorgeous Freya Allen, and many others.
Season one of the series aired in 2019 and the show was renewed for a second season even before the first season was aired. At one point, ‘The Witcher’ was named as the most popular streaming show in the world.
Season one was filled with action and drama and we were all very much engrossed in the whole show.
Henry Cavill sure did an AMAZING job as Geralt of Rivia and along with Jaskier, his right hand never failed to amuse us. The song ‘Toss a coin to your witcher’ is still on top of our playlist.
Season 2 is set to resume
Season 2 was already 6 weeks into production and was put on hold due to the Corona Virus outbreak, but we finally have a date now and it is set to resume on August 17.
The production was one of the first high profile shows that was affected by the Corona Virus outbreak when the ‘Game of Thrones’ star Kristofer Hivju who was set to appear in the second season was tested positive for the virus.
Now that the UK government has approved new safety rules in relation to TV shows and films, all is set to resume production.
The issued safety guidelines make sure that temperature tests and social distancing will take place on every set.
Showrunner Lauren Hissrich shared the concerns over how the pandemic would affect the production and how it would affect the action sequences, given the social distancing regulations.
Despite all the precautions that are being taken, Hissrich expressed her excitement in getting back with the story and the new characters in the show.
The confusing timeline in the first season was also addressed and fans were assured that Season 2 will mostly move along the same timeline except for a few flashbacks.
Season 2 will deeply explore the powerful bonds between Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri and this would certainly be a central theme in the upcoming season.
Individually, all three are such dynamic characters and it would be interesting to see how they would come about together.
The show is expected to air on Netflix in 2021. Anyway, fans are eagerly waiting to see what Geralt, Jaskier, and the others are going to bring to us and how things are going to turn out.
