Zombies have always been the quintessential pick for the horror lover. However, Indian films and series have hardly got it right with this particular genre.
Go Goa Gone was probably one of the only movies in the Zombie genre that got accepted widely by horror movie lovers.
However, in spite of critics down rating, Betal is here for 4 reasons.
So, why the horror lover in you should not give this one a miss!
1.It is a political satire
Yes, you read that right, this one is a political satire and acts more as a metaphor on the cruelty, that the British colonialists unleashed on the Indian masses.
There are also hints of post-colonial imperialism that lives on within the people at large.
The central premise of the film is actually when a British lieutenant and his army of redcoat zombies clash with a fictional Indian force.
You may not know these actors and not even familiar with their face but about them, they are mostly from the world of indie films and series.
However, Vineet Kumar Singh, Aahana Kumra and Jatin Goswami, etc. light up the screen. They make you feel all their emotions along with their trials and tribulations throughout the series.
The makeup and clothes of all the actors are on point and for a second, you forget that you are watching the series in 2020.
3. The jump scares
If there is one common attribute of all horror lovers, it is that they wait in anticipation for those moments that will make them jump up on their seats.
Although Betaal is not all about jump scares, there are sufficient moments in the series that will make you cover your eyes with your anxiety. Looking for an adrenaline rush? This series is the one for you!
If there is one thing you will love about this series, it is the plot. It starts off with a greedy contractor opening up a tunnel to construct a high as a result of which a great evil is unleashed on all of humanity. Before that though, the villagers are killed ruthlessly.
